Frequently Asked Brake Questions

Brakes are a very important part of your vehicle and taking good care of them is important too.

How long do brakes last?

Good Question. There really is no right or wrong answer for this. It all depends on you, the driver and your driving conditions. If you do a lot of city driving in traffic with quick stops, your brakes won’t last as long as if you do more highway driving with slower stopping. Most manufacturers say anywhere from 25,000 to 65,000 miles is typically a life span for new brakes.

How do I know when I need new brakes?

Fortunately, there are warning signs that your brakes will need to be preplaced soon. If you are having trouble with a low or spongy brake pedal, a hard brake pedal, a brake warning light that stays on, or if you hear grinding or screeching when you press the brake pedal, you will need to get your brakes inspected right away. It’s not a good idea to drive around with worn out brakes for obvious reasons such as safety, but there are also some not-so-obvious reasons as well. Your brakes have multiple moving parts that if left unattended could get very pricey to replace.
